When the sun finally sets...

When the sun finally sets,
it is not because I hung my head.

Sitting plainly, towards the west horizon
my eyes shielded from the star's bright core
by the branch of the tree beside me

We are perfectly in balance, the sun and I
neither too strong or weak, nor
peaking before the earth is ready

But the sun is not satisfied as yet
and sinks slowly, sweetly more
While I, dismissing its eagerness, resist

And raise my head from earth's floor.

You held and released me.

You held and released me.

You searched for me,
you found me.
And then you let me go.

I asked you why,
I begged and cried.
You said you didn't know.

But as time began to flow,
my heart would learn and know
that you letting me go

was your greatest act of love.

Our love was undefined.

Our love was undefined.

We were born here, in this place,
in this fate, between right and wrong.
Touches felt, both cold and warm,
Daylight short and nights so long.

We danced, both hard and soft,
Lips pursed, glass between our fingers.
Taking sips from lips and wine,
A love so strong, the taste still lingers.

Each new step, both rough and tender,
Drank it dry, the fluid night.
But in the morning, can't remember
if the love was wrong or right.

The taste dissolved into the light.

Whispers in the Mist

Whispers in the Mist

Runny neon streaks
shimmer in the rain-drenched streets.

You're finally seeing these roads
when you moved here ages ago,
with your eyes closed so tight,
psyching your mind up for a fight.

But no foe was found,
for hearts rest on this quiet ground.

All eyes soften with the rain,
lips too gentle to complain.
And you whisper to the misty blue
how you're thankful for this life anew.

I am the winter trees, if you please.

I am the winter trees, if you please.

The winter trees look fragile, standing there nakedly.
Their limbs seem too weak for the weight of their future greens.
And yet when the blooms come, they will carry the bounty proudly.
Nothing ever having looked more beautiful under pressure.
And all will forget how sad they were in the winter.

The Disconnect, The Fall

The Disconnect, The Fall

When we were one
we stood close to the sun
and watched our shadows fall

Above the earth
but below the sky
in a place that we can't quite recall

It was beautiful and strange
the disconnect we felt
floating aimlessly above the sprawl

But then my shadow found me;
Yours fled permanently;
and I landed alone afterall

Wishing you had found
the courage to brave the fall.

Don't swim or run (we'll have none).

Don't swim or run (we'll have none).

No lovely face, no lover
none of that for you
You washed it down the sink
finished it, you're through

And to the sea it vanished
heavy heart and hand
forgotten or unloved, unknown
but away from you I swam

And in my heart I wonder,
was that always your plan
to push and pull until we tore
so you could say I ran...

Your Face, the Sound, and my Heart...

Your Face, the Sound, and my Heart on the Ground.

I miss you coming home to me.
The rush I felt those last few moments right before I saw your face.
The keys jingling, the door opening, and then leaning into you.
My smile never wider, my eyes never brighter.
The best part of my days was what I shared with you.

Now the afternoons and evenings come, and I sit silently.
Warring with myself over what the sound of your footsteps used to be.
