the clearing

The little girl lay coughing in the darkness of her room.
Eyes open, breath returned, she whispers late but soon.
Asks why does she cough, and her mother speaks to soothe:

says she's spitting out the demons that bore with her from the womb.

shine the light

shine the light

You seek a life
of loneliness and solitude
calling it the truth

but we can all live happiness -
the light waiting to be lit
deep inside of you.

Bark to Body

(A three-year-old poem rediscovered.)

Bark to Body

I sat between two trees
as if they were embracing me
the air warm for the season
we found balance in the breeze

The cool earth lay beneath us
as we connected, bark to body
and I learned to find humanity there
when I was all but lost.

blue haze

blue haze

dusk-kissed
everything lays flatter
our bodies shift
loose particles and matter

slow-motion
everything falls under
the spell, the romance
sweeping beryl wonder

all-loved
every shadow's riper
the world around
grows deeper, dark, and brighter

quick the end
of every haze, dark's quicker
but in its echoes
'reprise' is what you whisper.

love blooms (in) waking death

love blooms (in) waking death

standing in wake
of the trembling tide,
holding her weight
though drowning inside

but love cannot sink
or be cast aside
the whole of it blooms
never to die.

the promise

the promise

the wind blows through the trees

like your breath on my neck

warm, exhilarating, full of love

I kiss it with my hand,

raised high to the blue

in our lips' moist, tender stead

your skin does not touch mine

but alone I am not

every silence whispers your love

and every moment

holds the promise

of home.

She wields a bow without arrows.

She wields a bow without arrows.

In the darkness round she's found
carrying her bow of rain
not sleet or snow or fire but
all the colors that she's gained

she caught them tender one by one
each sacred, brilliant hue
and yet she felt them all at once
making them whole to give to you

so now the loving bow does lay
between your precious palms
always home it guides your grace,
through deepest darkness, into love.

white canvas.

white canvas, find your core.

who are we

when we're all alone

no loved ones there beside us

or family to define us.

must find our sacred peace

let inner strength defeat

the call of loneliness

resist its haunting echoes.

love lives in the grottos

of your soul

let it take hold.
